Safety Week 2023 - Day 2

 


Strong Voices, Safe Choices

    Louisville VA started day two of Safety Week with an inspiring speech by Colonel Crispino. His comments on the excellent safety record and the overall goal of building for our veterans were greatly appreciated by all. 

    Lunch was provided by Bamba Eggroll Company (Filipino inspired food) and Four Pegs (BBQ food). The first safety demonstration of the day was given by 3M and the topic was Fall Rescue. Led by Laura Schmidt, she presented on several fall protection applications and demonstrated drop tests with fixed length and self-retracting devices. The second safety demonstration was given by Malcom Barrett with Building & Earth Services. He provided a visual model showing the size of one cubic yard of soil looks like, comparative examples of vehicles, and the proper slope angles for excavations and trenches. Lastly, he passed around soil samples to give the audience a hands-on experience of the different classifications of soil. 

    Thank you to our presenters and volunteers for making this a special experience for the trades.

Louisville VA - North Parking Garage

          The erection of the north parking garage has started! Need a parking spot? The precast will be completed in the summer of 2023. The garage will have 1, 289 parking spots. Precision Stone is the contractor performing the work.       The erection will be completed in 18 sequences. It is composed of 1,177 precast members that includes columns, inverted tees, and double tees. The garage features six levels and will have architectural panels installed on the fa çade. Work can be tedious and overwhelming yet Nationwide performed like the professionals they are.  From a QHSE perspective they "Planned the work and Worked the plan". Deliverable items such as Toolbox Talks and equipment inspections are submitted consistently on a timely basis. We have never had a safety compliance issues. That is a testament of good management and leadership. Nationwide truly exemplifies how professionals can get the job done without sacrificing safety.
