Craft Safety Committee
The Craft
Safety Committee program is an initiative that the WTJV HSE team has rolled out
with the intention of creating a worksite safety culture “by the workers, for
the workers”. The idea of this program is to set up a 15-30 minute weekly
meeting where a laborer representative from each sub-contractor on site is in
attendance. This is an open forum meeting, ran by the volunteer
representatives, where all attendees are encouraged to bring up any new ideas,
concerns or topics related to safety and the work being done on site. This
information is then taken in by the WTJV staff and an effort is made to
implement any new practices or ideas that can improve the safety culture on the
site. After action has been taken on these suggestions, results are posted in various
areas of the site on our “You Said It, We Did It” boards (Add Picture of board
below). The intent of the CLS program does not stop at just attending the
meetings and talking about new safety initiatives. The sub-contractor
representatives are also meant to act as a safety resource to their fellow
co-workers while they are out working in the field, as well as set a positive
example for safe work.
A special thanks to the representatives for their engagement in the hopes to continually improve and make Louisville VA a safer place to work!
